Chapter 245
Ambrose and Marigold met at a café known for its calm, classy atmosphere. It was a place where people could talk in private without being overheard.
Marigold sat down and didn’t waste time. “I heard Alaric’s warned you about Stellan multiple times, but you still can’t let her go and even dared to meet me. You’ve got guts,” she said with a sharp edge.
Ambrose replied calmly, “I want to give up, but I can’t. Even if it seems hopeless, I have to try.”
Marigold, feeling both angry and jealous, snapped, “I never received such love and care as Stellan does. Did she put a spell on all of you?”
She couldn’t understand why these men were so obsessed with Stellan.
“Talking about this will only make you mad, so let’s drop it,” Ambrose suggested, his voice steady. “I asked to meet you because I have something important to tell you.”
Marigold wasn’t in the mood for games. “Then spit it out!”
“Do you know about the Storm family’s bankruptcy seven years ago?” Ambrose asked, his eyes focused on hers.
“Of course!” Marigold answered impatiently. “If I didn’t, how would I have found Stellan to bear kids for the Knight family?”
“Right, you know about the bankruptcy… and Brennan’s suicide.” Ambrose paused, watching her closely.
Marigold raised an eyebrow. “What’s your point? I don’t care about the Storm family.”
“You might not,” Ambrose said, leaning forward slightly, “but Alaric does. Stellan believes the bankruptcy was a setup, that her dad was murdered. She wants the truth, but she doesn’t have the power to uncover it. So…”
“So she asked Alaric for help?” Marigold interrupted, her frustration mounting.
“Exactly,” Ambrose confirmed. “I know a bit about the truth. The Storm family was once as powerful as the Knight family. Taking them down required serious forces.”
Marigold’s face hardened as she listened. “Mr. Knight’s health is poor. Managing Nexus Innovations is already draining for him. Now he’s helping Stellan investigate? It’s physically and mentally exhausting.”
“Alaric’s insane!” Marigold exclaimed, furious. “He was in a coma for three years from severe injuries. He left the military, and now he wants to risk his life again? Is he trying to ruin himself and the Knight family?”
Her voice shook with anger, and she wanted nothing more than to confront Stellan and slap some sense into Alaric.
“Mrs. Knight, please calm down. I’m not finished,” Ambrose said, trying to steady her. “Do you know why Mr. Knight went out of town with Stellan? It’s to help her investigate the Storm family’s case.”
Marigold’s face turned red with rage.
“Damn it!” she muttered under her breath, grabbing her phone with shaking hands, ready to call Alaric. “I’ll make him come back right now!”
But before she could dial, Ambrose stopped her, his voice calm but firm. “They’re on a plane, Mrs. Knight. You can’t reach them. Even if you could, you know Alaric. The more you push, the more he’ll resist. Confronting him will only make things worse.”
Marigold clenched her fists, her mind racing. She knew Ambrose was right. The more she tried to control Alaric, the more stubborn he became.
“So, what do you suggest?” she asked, her voice filled with genuine concern. “I only have one son. If something happens to Alaric, I’ll die too. He’s completely under Stellan’s spell. He doesn’t care about me anymore. Ever since he joined the military, I’ve been living on edge. Only recently, these past few years, have I started to feel a bit better.”
Her words faltered as she realized how long she had been worrying. The weight of it all seemed to crush her.
Ambrose softened his tone. “Mrs. Knight, I understand. But you don’t need to worry too much. Like I said, I know a bit about the situation. This trip will be a waste of time for them. They won’t find anything.”
Marigold frowned. “It’s an old case. Investigating it won’t be easy.”
Ambrose continued, “We can work together long-term. If we can keep them apart during this time, it’s a win-win for both of us.”
Marigold felt a little reassured. “Are you sure?”
“Of course,” Ambrose replied confidently. “I don’t have a solid plan yet, but if we work together, we’ll figure something out.”
Marigold hesitated. “What if it doesn’t work out?”
“Mrs. Knight, we have the same goal, and no grudges between us. Even if this cooperation doesn’t work, you won’t lose anything.”
Marigold let out a sharp breath. “I’ve never liked Stellan. She married Alaric for his money, and now she’s pushing him into danger. That’s unforgivable.”
Ambrose nodded, his expression serious. “I can’t accept Stellan either. So we can cooperate. If you can find a way to separate them, I’ll do whatever you need.”
Marigold finally nodded, feeling a sense of relief. “Good. With your promise, I’m relieved.”
Ambrose smiled. “Let’s stay in touch.”
“Alright,” Marigold said, standing up to leave. Before she went, she turned to him one last time. “Are you really sure they won’t find anything this time?”
Ambrose reassured her. “Don’t worry. I’m sure.”
Marigold nodded. “That’s good.”
As she walked out, Ambrose smiled smugly to himself. Let Alaric and Stellan struggle all they wanted. They wouldn’t uncover the truth about the Storm family’s bankruptcy without going through him.
Meanwhile, the plane had landed, and Alaric and Stellan checked into their hotel. Once in their room, Alaric picked Stellan up and carried her to the bed.
“It’s late. Get some rest. Tomorrow, I’ll take you to see him,” Alaric said, his voice soft.
“Okay.” Stellan wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him gently. “Thank you.”
Alaric raised an eyebrow playfully. “If you think I’ve worked hard, saying thank you isn’t enough. How about a little reward?”
Stellan sighed, a teasing smile playing on her lips. “We just got to the hotel, and you’re already in the mood?”
